This free English course is designed to provide additional opportunities for students to practice their English skills. As this is a supplementary course, there will not be any credits or grades offered for this course. Course activities will include practice in all domains of the English language, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Course content will be drawn from current events and news articles from a variety of sources including The Guardian (One Stop English) and the New York Times (Learning Blog).
Course Goals and Objectives:
This course aims to create meaningful opportunities for international students to practice oracy and literacy in English. Through a combination of whole class and small group activities, students will be able to practice their receptive and productive language skills and learn more about current events in the United States. Topics covered throughout the course will include education, health care, racial justice, politics, economics, and immigration as well as other current events that arise throughout the duration of the course.
