About Christianity

The Hospitality Center for Chinese is a Christian ministry. This means that Jesus Christ is the reason and source of everything we do and believe. HCC’s mission is to share Christ's love through hospitality to Chinese students, scholars, and their families. We believe that God loves you and desires to speak to you, heal and forgive you and to bring you into a holy relationship with Him through Jesus.

What is Christianity?

Christianity is all about Christ. Christians believe that God has revealed Himself to the world through His son, Jesus Christ. If you want to know God – look at Jesus and what He did and said, look at how He died and rose to life again. Jesus lived a life of perfect love, healing the sick, speaking the truth, and living in perfect obedience to God. But Jesus was killed by the very people He served. Yet Jesus willingly died in order to show us the depth of God’s love and commitment to a broken and hostile world. Three days later Jesus rose from the grave, showing that He has victory over death and evil.

Religions usually offer a map – and if you follow it you can get to paradise. Or religion offers a list of rules, and if you follow the rules you can be acceptable to God. Christianity is different. It offers a person, Jesus, who loves us and God who made us and knows us. Christianity does not teach techniques about how we can try to get to God; instead, the Bible proclaims the good news that God has already come to us, right where we are. We are weak, broken and sinful and we need someone to save us. This someone is Jesus, the son of God.

Who is Jesus?

Jesus was born 2000 years ago in the Middle East. He was a real, historical person. And yet Christians believe that Jesus is the eternal Lord who lives and who promises to be with His followers everyday. How can you meet Jesus? You can read the Bible, God’s word. You can ask a Christian person to tell you more about how to know and follow Jesus. (HCC staff and volunteers are always glad to listen to your questions and thoughts and to share their experience of God.) You can go to a church. You can pray, which is simply talking to God and ask Him to help you.

Christian Churches

The Christian church had its beginning in the Middle East but has had an impact on nearly every country in the world. In the U.S., the Christian church has had a profound influence on nearly every facet of our culture including business, government, education, movies, music, medicine, marriage, families and of course our individual lives. No taste of American culture would be complete without a visit to at least one of the many churches listed below. Each church has a personality of its own and almost all are delighted to have guests.

The list below includes churches who are willing to provide a ride to services on Sunday mornings. Call for times of their Sunday morning services and request a ride if needed.

Many of the churches listed already have regular Chinese attendees and some offer church services in Mandarin. We hope you will try out a church while you are here and learn why so many persons from all walks of life have come to be devoted followers of Jesus.
